Landscape & management of Horticultural Crops Under stress Conditions


We are pleased to announce the 2009 International conference on Landscape and management of Horticultural Crops under Stress conditions. This Conference is to be held at University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan, October 5-6, 2009. The purpose of this conference is to provide an up-to-date discussion in the field of Horticultureand Landscape in stress  conditions. It will cover all aspects of stress landscaping and horticulture including drought, salinity, temperature and others. However, only limited number of papers on abiotic factors will be included in this conference. 

The Department of Horticulture was established in 1962 in the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Research in the department was organized into three disciplines of Horticulture i.e., Fruits, Vegetables, Floriculture & Landscape. In 2003, the department was upgraded as Institute of Horticultural Sciences and a new section on Aromatic and Medicinal plants was added. The Institute is the leading centre of teaching and research in these disciplines in the country with 23 well qualified faculty members and is well equipped with modern facilities for education and research.

Floriculture and Landscape section is established on modern lines with fully established Landscape studio to meet the needs for advanced Landscape designing techniques. Facilities for scanning, digitizing, printing and CAD software are also provided. A project of Ministry of Science and Technology entitled “Export Quality Cut Flower Production and Extraction of Essential Oil of Rosa” is also being run by the Institute and three Ph.D and many M.Sc. students are working on various aspects of this project. In addition, the Institute has a well established Floriculture and Landscape area for ornamental plants. The Institute is the premier and first of its kind in Pakistan with the vision to impart horticultural education and conduct problem oriented operational as well as basic research for the benefit of the farmers and horticultural development in the country. It is also engaged in development of the manpower for improving ornamental crop production and to provide on-job training for the Horticulturists and this show is a part of regular activities run by the institute.      

The Conference will include  technical sessions. And we are open to suggestions on other topics/areas.
